Darrell Gene "Doc" Wisseman, 67, of Milford passed away Saturday, January 2, 2015 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford Memorial Hospital. Doc was born in Milford, DE the son of the late Gideon and Alice (Banning) Wisseman. He was a graduate of Milford High School. After graduation Doc joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a submariner on the USS Sargo and the USS Swordfish. After his discharge from the Navy, he joined the Merchant Marines, serving for 14 years. He then went to work at the Energizer Playtex Plant in Dover as a mechanic, where he was currently working when he became ill. He enjoyed woodworking, duck hunting and especially sleeping after a hard nights work on the night shift.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Jeanie (Wimer) Wisseman, two sons Chris Wimer and his wife Shawna, of Milford and Darrell L. Wisseman, of Wilmington; one daughter Alicen D. Wisseman and her fiance' Harold Sennett, of Lincoln; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Kaylie, Kameron and Morgan; one sister Pearl Burbage, of Milford; one brother Bud Wisseman and his wife Sonia, of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews as well as his beloved yellow lab Bella Dee.
Friends may call from 6 - 8 pm on Friday evening, January 8, 2015 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford and again from 12 - 1 pm on Saturday, January 9 where services will follow at 1 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Rt. 113, Milford.
