James William Simpson, 81, of Elkton, MD formerly of Harrington, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at home. James was born in Denton, MD on May 6, 1934, the son of the late Calvin and Kathryn Derrickson (Thawley) Simpson. He was a technician with the State of Delaware, working for the Department of Transportation for 35 years, before retiring in 1990. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Franklin Derrickson and a son James Justin Simpson.

He is survived by his Wife of 59 years Mary Smith Simpson; one Daughter, Debra Simpson Allen (Tony DeLuca) of Bear/Glasgow; one Son, Steven Simpson (Gayle Bernhard) of Felton; Grandchildren: Jesse Simpson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Lisa Allen Maguire (Kyle) of Wilmington; Donald Allen, Jr. (Shannon Reeder) of Delaware City; Kathryn Allen (Jase Anderson) of Key West, FL; Savannah Simpson of Felton/Newark; Great Grandchildren: Alaina Novack of New York; Ryan and Aubrey Maguire of Wilmington and one sister Shirley Peterson (Karl) of Fox Island, WA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington, DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Amedisys Hospice # 5015, 107 Chesapeake Boulevard, Suite 134, Elkton, MD 21921.
