Charles Benjamin Heritage, 87, of Milford, DE went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford. Charlie was born in Camden, NJ the son of the late Alonzo and Rose (Aweither) Heritage. He entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War, where he earned several meritorious medals for valor on the battlefield. Charlie worked as a boilermaker at Mobile Oil in Paulsboro, NJ for 42 years before retiring in 1987. He was a very active member of the local communities in which he lived. Charlie was a volunteer firefighter in Collinswood, NJ, volunteered with the American Cancer Society as a driver for those in need of transportation for their chemotherapy treatments, served as the head of the Young Democrats, but later in life became a staunch Republican, was the Sergeant of Arms for the Residence Council at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford, and was a benefactor for the Diamond Dance Company. He was an avid bridge player and was a Life Master of Bridge. He also was a lifelong Lutheran and attended the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford with his family for many years. Charlie also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years Thelma (Berger) Heritage.
He is survived by his daughter Suzanne Heritage - Madanat and three grandchildren Dakota Ashton Madanat, Suzette Jayne Madanat and Lt. Commander Daniel Madanat, USN. A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford. Letters of condolence may be sent and shared with the family at www.loflandandmcknatt.com.
