Shirley Glanden Obituary

Shirley B. Glanden, 73, passed on March 8, 2026 after a brave battle with cancer. She was born on April 10, 1952 in Milford Hospital, the daughter of William Brittingham and Alice (Powell) Brittingham of Felton.

She is survived by her sisters Joyce Welsh (Joe Keyes), Patricia (Jim) Robinson, and brother Bill (Lisa) Brittingham; her twin sons Mark M. (Annie) and Matthew B. (Amy), her sister-in-law Beverly (late Bud) Coverdale, nieces Amanda (Brian) Wright and Ashley Brittingham, and nephew Billy (Jessica) Brittingham; her loving partner Ed Starr and his sons Chris (Lauren) and Jeff (Kaoru); and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in her death by her husband of 35 years, Charles “Del” Glanden, brother-in-law Steve Oldham, brother-in-law Albert “Bud” Coverdale and niece Carrie Coverdale.

Shirley graduated near the top of the first class of the newly formed Lake Forest High School in 1970 in Felton. After graduation, she was a fixture for decades at the Delaware Bankers Association where generations of bank presidents and the Delaware Congressional delegations knew her and her dedication to her position. She was active for many years in the Felton United Methodist Church and sang in their choir. She enjoyed traveling and visited Greece, Italy, Spain, Bermuda, and Hawai’i among other states, but especially loved traveling to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia to hike and horseback ride with Ed. She loved to spend her weekends and warm days in retirement sailing on the Chesapeake with Ed, seeing the horse races at Delaware Park and catching up with her many friends and family. But Shirley’s favorite activity was playtime with her many grandchildren: Adeline, Emma (Mark); Hannah, Sam (Matthew); Sydney, Olivia (Chris); River, Siera (Jeff).
