Sandra Irene Fitzgerald Currey Dill, 84, of Slaughter Beach, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, surrounded by her loving family. Sandra was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Huriah Thomas and Irene (Lynch) Fitzgerald. She was a graduate of Milford High School, then received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Delaware, and then received her Masters Degree in Education from Salisbury Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher, working her whole career at Lulu Ross Elementary School in Milford for 25 years. After retiring from teaching, Sandra worked as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Sandra was a very independent woman. In her spare time, She enjoyed bowling, especially in the local bowling leagues, liked playing cards and games, enjoyed camping, traveling, and listening to music. Most important to Sandra, was her family, which she enjoyed spending time with and doing family activities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Stacy Dill, two sons Tod Currey and John Dill III, and a brother Tom Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years John; her daughters Sherrie Lech (Gene) and Shaina Currey; her grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Quinn, Jackson and Tyler; her brothers Steve Fitzgerald and Craig Fitzgerald, as well as many loving family members.
A viewing will be held from 11 am to 12 pm at the Lincoln Community Church, 8641 2nd Street, Lincoln where funeral services will be held at 12 noon. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Brandywine Valley S.P.C.A., 22918 DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
