Ruth Christine Powell

Ruth Christine Powell, age 99, died on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, DE. Born in Harrington, Delaware on January 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frederic C. Powell and Ruth Harvey Powell. She graduated from Harrington High School in 1942 as Salutatorian of the senior class, and from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY in 1946 with a B.S. degree. She was then employed by Bankers Trust Company, New York City, retiring as secretary to the Chairman in 1987 after 41 years with the Company. During this time, she was a resident of Brooklyn Heights, NY, where she was an active associate member of historic Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims (Congregational), while also retaining membership at Asbury U.M. Church in Harrington which she joined in 1937 and where she attended before locating in New York. While at Plymouth Church, she served several terms on the Board of Deacons and on numerous Church committees over the years. She was a member and officer of the Business and Professional Women's Group, and a former member of the Board of Managers of the New York Congregational Nursing Center in Brooklyn. Other memberships included the Brooklyn Heights Association, Harrington Historical Society, and the Harrington High School Alumni Association. She is survived by her nephew and niece Brad and Debbie Butler.

There will be a graveside service at 11 am on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
