Obituary

Ruby T. Collier, 81, of Milford, DE passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus, Milford. Ruby was born in Talladega, Alabama the daughter of the late Martha Randall. Ruby was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and a valued member of the community.  She supported her late husband Bill Collier's career in the US Army, which included many years living abroad, having and raising their children; and then again, with Bill’s subsequent federal government career which included one more trip abroad before finally returning to the East Coast to set down roots.  As Bill continued to travel abroad, Ruby stayed to keep the home fires burning and ensure the family was always first and well cared for.

Once all of her own children were grown and out of the house, Ruby wanted to contribute more and began working security for BWI airport in Glen Burnie, MD (this is many years before TSA).  After a number of years working there, Ruby changed jobs to work with a federal credit union where she made a lot of friends and had many fond memories.  After her husband Bill retired for the second time, they moved to Florida where they enjoyed a life of sunshine and warmth until grandbabies started coming and growing.  That’s when they both decided to move back closer to their children and grandchildren, and they settled in the little town of Milford, Delaware.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milford. Ruby enjoyed crafting and was very creative throughout her life.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting, and various types of different crafting.  Ruby was an avid reader and was very inquisitive and well versed in both the current news of the day as well as the political climate. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, but was especially involved with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and doted on all of the time. In addition to her mother, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years James W. "Bill" Collier in 2012.

Ruby is survived by her 4 children Michael (Mike) Collier and his wife Arlene Singer; Stephen Collier and his wife Kendra, Joni Melotti and her husband Matt, and Randy Collier and his wife Jennifer; 5 grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.  Additionally, by marriage of her oldest son, she has three grandsons and a great-granddaughter whom she was able to meet later in her life and whom she also adored.
