Ronald V. Payne

Ronald (Ron) Payne, 82, of Milford, DE, died August 19, 2023 at Milford Center after declining health due to normal pressure hydrocephalus. In addition to his parents, the late Emerald and Ruth Payne, Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife Edith Ann (Edie) Payne, brother Donald Payne and nephew Donald, Jr. He is survived by his children, Karen (George) Zang, Milford, DE and Mark (Amy) Payne, Syracuse, NY; four grandchildren, Katie Zang and her fiancée Brie Durkin,
Danny Zang, Shaylee and Riley Payne; sister-in-law Mary Payne. 

Ron was born in Endicott, NY, where he lived until moving to Delaware in 1992. Ron dedicated the early part of his career to serving his community, both as an Endicott Fireman and as an original member of the Union Volunteer Ambulance Service Board of Directors. He also was a charter member of the Round Hill Chapter of DeMolay. He eventually retired from DuBois Chemical Co. after working many years in NY and DE. His lifelong dedication of 70 years to the Boy Scouts of America began with his own scouting experience as a boy, and he went on to serve and became
Scoutmaster Emeritus of Troop 202 (Endicott, NY). He also volunteered with Troop 186 (Milford, DE) and was Scoutmaster for them and various others in Delaware for many years. While with the scouts, he earned multiple honors including the Silver Beaver Award and various Scouter’s Key Awards. 

Calling hours will be held at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 Church St, Milford, DE on Monday August 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM with a service to follow. Services in New York will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to your local charity of choice. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
