Phyllis Baker Kemp

Phyllis Baker Kemp, 89, of Milford, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Phyllis was born December 17, 1932, in Greenwood, DE, the daughter of the late George and Marjorie (Fry) Baker. She graduated from Greenwood High School and the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she worked briefly at Milford Memorial Hospital and then 27 years at Playtex, Inc., in Dover as an occupational health nurse before retiring in 1994. 

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Milford where she served on the Vestry. She also belonged to the Milford Home Extension Club, the Milford Century Club, and the English-Speaking Union. In addition. she was the Hirsch Fund Treasurer, a Read-Aloud volunteer, and an avid gardener. She loved to travel, and her adventurous spirit sent her exploring throughout the world. Most importantly, Phyllis was a devoted and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her children were always certain of her deep love for them. Phyllis remained true to her independent, determined character until the end.

She is survived by her three children: R. B. Kemp (Jacqueline), Margo Kemp Halton (Jim), and Michael Barrett Kemp (Linda); seven grandchildren: Rory, John Alex (Meghan), and Storm Kemp; Maureen Halton-Iannone (Casey); and Morgan (Andrew), Jocelyn, and Elijah Kemp; and five great- granddaughters: Aleigha, Caroline, Kinsley, Abigail, and Julieta. She is also survived by brother Phillip Baker (JoAnn).

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 N. Church Street, Milford. Visitors will be received in the church two hours before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 191, Milford, DE 19963.
