Marjorie E. Hignutt Chambers passed away on August 17, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. She was 87. She was the oldest daughter of Richard Hillman & Martha Wainwright Murray in Zebulon, NC. She lived in NC until she met her first husband George E. Hignutt while he was stationed in the service. They moved to Delaware to raise their family. In her early years she worked at the tomato cannery in Hickman. She spent 43 years in the Woodbridge School District driving a school bus and then becoming a school bus contractor driving her own bus. She had been a devoted Jehovah Witness who loved going out into the field ministry since 1969. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She loved to fish with her sisters whenever they could get together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Curtis, first husband George E. Hignutt in 1989, her second husband George Chambers in 2002, her sisters Doris Harvey in 2009 & Lois Williamson in June 2023.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Teresa) of Greenwood, Richard of Felton, and George A. (Morgan) of Bridgeville, daughters Betty George (James) of Long Neck, Carolyn Pearson (Paul) of Greenwood, and Donna Vacek of Hagerstown, step-children, Emma Walker (Rick), Penny Facemeyer of Rutherfordton, NC, and Randy Chambers (Angie) of Greenwood. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandson.
There will be a visitation at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave, Milford, DE on Thurs, Aug 24 from 6 – 8 pm. There will also be a viewing at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 29250 Skipton Landing Road, Cordova, MD on Fri. Aug 25 from 12:00 – 1:15 with services starting at 1:30 pm. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Denton, MD. Letters of condolence may be shared with the family at www.loflandandmcknatt.com.
