Madison Nicole "Maddie" McGinnis

Madison Nicole "Maddie" McGinnis, 13, Milford, DE went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Thursday, February 4, 2021. (World Cancer Day). Maddie was born April 15, 2007 the daughter of Amanda and Kevin York. She was an 8th grade student at Milford Central Academy when she became ill. At Milford Central Academy, Maddie was active in the school chorus, played softball, and in 6th grade and 7th grade was a cheerleader. Everyone that knew Maddie knew she was a feisty young woman and truly enjoyed life. She had a contagious laugh that would bring a grin to everyone she came in contact with. She loved animals and babies. She raised chickens and ducks at home and had the opportunity to travel with her family to the Allentown Zoo, where she was able to fulfill her dream to actually see and interact with a Sloth. Maddie was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved to follow her favorite player #11 Chase Claypool.

She is survived by her mother and father Amanda and Kevin York; two sisters Skylar McGinnis and Krystyna York; one brother Jordan Moses; her grandmother Barb Walls and her husband Buddy; her grandfather David McGinnis and his wife Joyce; her God mother Angie Winchester; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved Chihuahua puppy Callie and her dog Jetter.

The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to her nurses Tiffany, Christy and the rest of the Delaware Hospice nurses who lovingly cared for Maddie throughout her illness.

A viewing will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 North Church Street, Milford where funeral services will be held at 12 noon. Due to COVID-19 protocols, masks must be worn and social distancing must be observed by all participating in any aspect of the service. The funeral service at Avenue United Methodist Church will be live streamed on the church's facebook page at facebook.com/avenueumc. Burial will follow in Milford Community Cemetery, North Walnut Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Maddie's name be sent to the Milford Moose Lodge #2316, 20142 Beaver Dam Road, Milford, DE  19963.
