Lawrence E. "Larry" Lewis, Jr., 64 of Milford, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Post Acute Medical Care, Wilkes - Barre, PA. Larry was born in Crisfield, MD, the son of the late Lawrence E. Lewis, Sr. and Evelyn Rae Lewis. He was a graduate of Milford High School class of 1975. He began his career working for the Delaware Bay River Pilots. He then went to work as a dispatcher for the Milford Police Department for many years before having to retire due to disability. Larry joined the Carlisle Fire Company, Inc. in 1973 as one of the first Junior Members and became a Regular member in December 1975. He served as Junior Fire Chief under Chief Marvin Hitch, Building Superintendent, Ambulance Captain, Fire Recorder, Secretary, and Fire Police as well as serving on several committees. He was a member of Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown. Larry also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and working on cars.
He is survived by his daughter Marti Whitley (Stephen); 3 brothers Kevin Lewis, David Lewis (Wendy) and John "Woody" Lewis (Patty); 2 grandchildren Gavin and Mila; nieces and nephews Cortney Wimer (Dennis), Ashley Gray, Brooke Lewis (Fiancee' Josh Warfield), Danielle Lewis, Lindsay Lewis (Fiancee' Jeff Mullin), Landon Lewis, Katelyn Ellingsworth (Jeremy), Casey Lewis and Brandon Betts; as well as several great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Larry's Life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2021 in Grier Memorial Hall at the Carlisle Fire Company, 615 N.W. Front Street, Milford where a visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm. Firefighters honors will be follow the services.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to either the Carlisle Fire Company, P.O.
