Laura J. Betts

Laura J. Betts, 86, of Greenwood, DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2020 at Atlantic Shores. Laura was born in Harrington, DE the daughter of the late William T. and Pauline (Hall) Lord. She worked as a seamstress at the Aetna Shirt Factory in Harrington for many years before retiring. She was a member of Pilgrim Chapel. Laura enjoyed doing ceramics and loved her spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Raymond Nichols, Sr.  in 1982; her second husband William Woodard 1991; her third husband George Frank Betts in 2019; her grandson Rob Reed, Jr.; three brothers William Lord, John Lord, and Robert Lord; and three sisters Jane Carpenter, Evelyn Layton and Ann Jump.

She is survived by her son Raymond Nichols, Jr. and his wife Debbie; a daughter Sharon Reed; 2 sisters Mary Pitlick and Audrey Zeitler; 5 grandchildren Travis Nichols, Eric Nichols, Shelby Reed, Michele Messick, and Sherry Feltz; and 6 great grandchildren.

We very much want to honor Laura’s life and together share our appreciation of her contributions to the community, however, in consideration of the current public health environment, and to protect the health of Laura’s family and friends, services and burial in Hollywood Cemetery will be private.
