Larry Nichols Obituary

Larry E. Nichols, 75, of Harrington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. Larry was a proud graduate of Lake Forest High School and dedicated nearly five decades of his life to the skilled trade of brick masonry. His career began in his teenage years while attending Kent Vocational School, where he earned second place in a national competition through the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. Deeply proud of his craft, Larry left a lasting imprint across the state of Delaware, contributing to the construction of numerous schools, state buildings, and the walkways on The Green in Dover.

Beyond his work as a mason, Larry was affectionately known as “The Cake Man.” He established a beloved side business baking cakes and was widely recognized for his creativity and generosity in sharing his talents with others.

Larry embraced his role as a father with great dedication, always striving to provide for his family. He loved being around people and was known for his fun-loving nature, friendly spirit, and unmistakable big grin. A member of the Harrington Moose Lodge for more than 25 years, Larry was once honored as Man of the Year and devoted countless hours volunteering, often sharing his hard work and culinary skills.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including gardening, cooking, baking, fishing, singing karaoke, and dancing. A passionate NASCAR fan, Larry especially admired Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Nichols Wright; his brother, Michael Carnahan; and his beloved dog and loyal companion, Tory.

He is survived by his son, Alan Nichols (Jennifer); his daughter, Wendy Lanier (Robbie); his grandchildren, Morgan, Ashton, and Dylan; his great-grandchild, Jaxson; and his sister, Karen Carnahan Dale.

Larry will be remembered for his craftsmanship, generosity, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
