John Morris Obituary

John Nelson Morris, aged 66, just one day short of his 67th birthday, entered the Kingdom of Heaven at home on Thursday, September 5, 2024. John was born on September 6, 1957, to the late Amanda Doris and Raymond Earl Morris in Painesville, Ohio.

John graduated from Lake Forest High School in Felton, DE. In January 1979, he started his 30 year career with DELDOT Road Maintenance, State Yard 6, located in Harrington, DE. During this time, he also joined the Harrington Volunteer Fire Company as a firefighter and EMT.  He loved to help those in need. After many years with Harrington Fire Company, he joined Houston Volunteer Fire Company as a firefighter, and later Fire Police Officer.

John loved to joke and smile with people. Playing pool, card games, horse shoes, Rummikub, and always challenging his granddaughter Becky to the “Championship Game” of 500 Rummy, to which she always won.

John entered the Gates of Heaven escorted by his wife of 31 years, Brenda S. Welch-Morris, his late parents Amanda Doris & Raymond Earl Morris, his son-in-law of 21 years James O. Blythe, M.D., and his two grandchildren, which I’m sure he's been giving piggyback rides all over Heaven.

John left behind his daughter Jaime Blythe, granddaughter Becky Blythe, 3 grand dogs: Jackson, Sydney, and Penny.  His cousins Matt Burgess, Randy & Sue and their family, a brother-in-law Donald E. Welch, nephews Louis, and Charles Welch. John also had a wonderful adopted family that he loved immensely Kiley & Royce Purcell, Royce & Megan Purcell and their two children Braelynn & Brinlee Purcell, and Kayla Kriner, and her three children Jay, Kaia, and Asher.

John’s final goodbyes are scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024 with visitation from 11am-12pm, and services to start at 12pm at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery on Route 14 in Harrington, DE. Letters of condolence may be shared with the family at www.loflandandmcknatt.com.
