John Walter Momot, 83, went home peacefully to be with the Lord with his daughter by his side on February 13, 2022, at The Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, Delaware after a long illness. He was born on March 30, 1938, to Walter and Michalena “Helen” (Kurman) Momot, in Chester, PA. John attended Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic School in Chester where he graduated in 1952. He proudly served as an altar boy at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. He graduated from Saint James Catholic High School for Boys in 1956. John attended one semester at Pennsylvania Military College where he determined college life was not for him and decided he wanted to work with his hands. He was drafted into the Army in 1961 to 1963. He was stationed in Thailand during his time of service as an Army Medic. After his discharge from the Army John returned home to Chester where he went to work at Westinghouse in Lester, PA. He took early retirement in 1983 and moved to Lewes, DE in 1984. After retiring from Westinghouse, John had several jobs in Sussex County including Parker Block, Henlopen Acres, C. P. Diver Chevy-Olds, American Tree Care, Seaboard Transportation, and personal chauffeur to local doctors. He was an avid American Flyer Train collector and enjoyed going to train shows. He also enjoyed fishing at Roosevelt Inlet, and you could always find him under the hood or underneath a vehicle working on it.
He loved his family very much. He is preceded in death by his parents and his cousin who was more like a brother, Michael Harasika. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Corbett), his two daughters, Sharon (Robert Dale) Annis of Ellendale, Delaware and Dianne “Annie” Momot of Harrington, Delaware; his 8 grandchildren, Marti (Stephen) Whitley, Felicity, Robert “Dale”, December, Xander, Tommy, Jasper and Brycen Annis as well as two great-grandchildren: Gavin and Mila Whitley. He is also survived by a sister, Diane Waskiewicz and nephew, Mark Waskiewicz as well as several other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to The Sussex Consortium, Lewes, Delaware, The Delaware Veterans Home, Milford, Delaware or Delaware Hospice, Milford, Delaware.
