John Lewis Green, Sr.

John Lewis Green, Sr., 87, of Greenwood, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in the family home in Greenwood on July 31, 1936, the son of the late John Barber and Anna (Short) Green. He was an entrepreneur and a farmer who tilled many acres of farmland. Additionally, he was involved in the dairy, pig, and poultry side of farming. To name just a few of his endeavors, he owned and operated a sawmill, established a housing development, and was involved in several other real estate ventures. John was a Delaware Army National Guard sergeant at the Milford Armory. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and past president of the former Greenwood School PTA. John frequently enjoyed reading and learning new things.

John was a faithful, loving, and supportive husband and father. He was an active member of the Milford Church of God, where he first met and later married his beautiful wife, Marian. What was most valuable to John was his family and being a family man. He loved holding hands and walking with Marian and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had the privilege of holding every baby born into the family. He will truly be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by their set of twins, William Keith and Nancy Lee Green, and three brothers, Robert Davidson, Donald, and Richard Green.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marian Elizabeth (Callaway) Green; four children: John L. Green, Jr. (Jaye), Suzette Poore (Jeff), Lisa Hunt (Rennie), and Mitzie Jo Diogo (Brad); 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandson.

A viewing will be held from 10 - 11 am on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut Street, Milford where funeral services to honor John's life will be held at 11 am.  Following the service, John will be laid to rest in the St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
