John R. Diskau, 81, of Milford, DE formerly of Newark, DE passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Wilmington, the son of the late William F. and Anna (Ohmstedte) Diskau. He was a 1959 graduate of Conrad High School. After high school, he volunteered as a Boy Scout leader for several years. John started a TV sales and service business in his own home in Newark known as TV Specialists. His business expanded and he moved it to Main Street operating for a total of 10 years before closing the shop and moving to Milford. Once in Milford, John went to work at L.D. Caulk/Dentsply International as an area manager for the West Milford Plant, working there for many years before retiring in 1996. John then went into real estate, working for ReMax Twin Counties before retiring again. From childhood, John had a real passion for photography. He designed his own developing room at home, giving him the ability to develop his own black and white pictures. He continued as a photographer up until his death.
John was a member of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford. After his retirement, John played golf, received his boat Captain’s license, and played tennis as well as bocce ball. He loved being outdoors, camping, fishing, and playing games, especially Bridge and Hearts. He enjoyed winter vacations in Florida. Most important to John throughout his life was his love for his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, all of whom meant the world to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Elsie MacInnes, Louise Touchton, and Bill Diskau.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Helene A. (Western) Diskau; his children Elizabeth Arnold (Carl), Shelly Vaughn, and Kim Friberg (Walt); grandchildren John Vaughn, Anthony Vaughn, Pete Thompson (Meg), Becca Smith (Lester), Kyra Friberg and Kevin Friberg; great grandchildren Charleigh Smith and Connor Smith; his nieces and nephews Kathy Heverin, Michael Touchton, Yvonne Lehm and Yvette Valentin; also his niece Peggy Henderson and his cousin Jim Marshall, who were like siblings to him.
A Celebration of John's Life will take place from 12 - 5 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022, as an open house at 15 W. Clarke Avenue, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Vickie & Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
