James Hollar Obituary

James Everett Hollar, Sr., 80, of Lincoln, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Jim was born in Washington, DC, the son of the late Everett Forrest and Mary Virginia (Martin) Hollar. He served for 6 years in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Wasp during the Vietnam War. After his service to our country, Jim began his career as a manager for 7-Eleven where he worked for 5 years. He then went to work as a Deputy Sheriff for Fairfax County, working for 20 years before having to retire after being involved in a line of duty accident. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach American Legion Post #5, where he served as Commander for several years. Jim enjoyed watching cowboy and war movies. He also enjoyed listening to country music, especially that of George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Buck Owens. Another singer that Jim enjoyed listening to was Frank Sinatra, who sang "I did it my way" which is how best described Jim's life! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Carol Louise Smith and brother in law William (Buddy) Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Paula Marie (Garrison Oldland) Hollar; a son James E. Hollar, Jr.; a daughter Kim Baker and her husband Jim; a granddaughter Samantha McCafferty; a sister Linda Lee Lindemuth and her husband William; son in law Harvey Douglas Cornwell; a nephew Tim McDonald; a niece Isabella McDonald; as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
