Gloria Jean Simmons

Gloria Jean Simmons (Betts), 83, of Chester Springs, PA, formerly of Milford, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at her home surrounded by love and family.
 
Gloria was born in Seaford, DE the daughter of the late Walter K. Betts and Mabel Jeanette (Griffith) Betts. She was a graduate of Milford High School and soon moved to Wilmington, DE where she went onto work for DuPont for the next 40 years as an administrative assistant. 

She loved a good party and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed the beach, reading, crocheting, shopping, doting on her nieces and nephews, dancing, singing, listening to music, and a good spaghetti dinner. She especially enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandson. 

She was a devoted wife for 49 years, sister, mother, grandmother, and sister-in-law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Simmons, sister Barbara Lofland and brother Dr. Meredith "Dean" Betts. 

She is survived by her daughter Stacia Hontanon and her husband Ramon; her grandson Cade Hontanon, two sisters Jeanie Fitzgerald and Marisa Pendleton (Bob); one brother Keith Betts (Jan): one brother-in-law Bobby Lofland; one sister-in-law Mary Betts; an abundance of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and her granddog “Deke.” 

A viewing will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, DE where funeral services will be held at 11 am. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery, N. Walnut Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
