Frederick Charles Tate, 73, of Milford, DE formerly of WIlmington, DE passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021. Fred was born in York, PA the son of the late Sterling and Ada (Stauffer) Tate. In 1970 Fred joined the Wilmington Police Department, serving for 20 years before retiring at the rank of Detective in 1990. With a love for the outdoors, Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed painting landscapes and taking landscape photography. Fred was a wonderfully creative storyteller and writer and an excellent wordsmith who specialized in writing short stories.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years Carmela Tate; 3 sons Sean Tate (Jaclyn Vernon), Michael Tate (Melissa) and Joshua Tate (Jenn Oakes); and one grandson, Hunter Tate.
A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the F.O.P. Lodge #5, 2744 Red Lion Road, Bear, DE. Visitation hours will be from 1:00pm to 2:45pm, with the Service beginning at 3:00pm.
