Francis William "Butch" Messick, 73, of Ellendale, DE passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at home. Butch was born in Milford, DE the son of Francis William and Frances "Tucker" Messick. He was a drywaller beginning his career with Schatz and Schatz in Houston, then working for K.B. Coldiron in Selbyville up until he retired December 29, 2017. He was a member of the Cedarfield Ruritan in Milford and the Why Not! Classic Car Club. He enjoyed fishing and going to car shows. He also loved to work with his hands and loved to build things as well as working with resin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Joyce Ensminger and Tina Kemper.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Diana Lynn (Wimer) Messick; his children Adam Messick (Michelle) and Deena Messick Fitzgerald (Matt); his grandchildren, who his whole world revovled around Bayley Jo Messick and Katelyn Fitzgerald (Logan Warncke); and his brothers and sisters Timothy Messick, Patricia Wagner, Dianne Howell, Steve Messick, Barbara Rogers, Sheila Breckner, Donald Messick and Terry Messick; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and his beloved dog and companion, his basset hound "Sunny".
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Cedarfield Ruritan Club, 315 Tubmill Pond Road, Milford, DE 19963.
