Evelyn Marie Brooks

Evelyn Marie Brooks, 82, of Frederica, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Harrison Senior Living, Georgetown, DE, surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born in Milford, the daughter of the late John Gillis and Lena (Collins) Baker. She worked in custodial services for the Estancia School District in Estancia, New Mexico for several years before retiring in July 2005. She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church of Milford. She enjoyed reading and loved animals. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. It is said that Evelyn never met a stranger and she never left a person she met without giving them a hug. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Lare, Sr.; brothers John Baker and Harvey Baker and sisters Betty Davis, Loretta Johnson and Joan Guessford.

She is survived by two daughters Catherine Kohland (Jack) and Karen Ramsey (Bob); one son Charles R. Lare, Jr. (Debbie); her twin sister Dora Short (Harold); grandchildren Dustin Lare, Amy Saia (Tony), Charles Desrosiers, and Kalea Ramsey; great grandchildren Tyler Lare, Brianna Lare, Landon Saia, Abby Lare, Caleb Lare and Christopher Ramsey; as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved and deeply cared for.

A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be private at the home of Evelyn’s nephew Kevin Short and his wife Debbie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the First State Animal Shelter and S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE  19934. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, DE.
