Eliza Lida Legates Wilkins, 95 years young, of Milford, DE, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025. Eliza was born on October 27, 1929 to Elsie and John Legates in Felton, DE. She was one of seven children. Often known as Eliza Jane or Jane to her friends, she was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many. In 1953, she met the love of her life, Hirschel Wilkins. They were happily married for 33 years before his passing.
Eliza took great pride in being a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed getting her hair done while socializing at the hair salon, chit chatting with her friends while at Hardee's or Arby's, and browsing Big Lots or Dollar Tree. Most importantly, Eliza loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was Miss Independent, full of spunk, and a fighter until the very end. She will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know her. Eliza is preceded in death by her loving husband Hirschel Wilkins, daughter Michele Holmes, son William (Bill) Wilkins, her parents and six siblings.
She is survived by her two daughters Merrie Jones and Beverly Neibert (Terry Pittman); her son Richard Wilkins (Donna); six grandchildren Lynn Wilkins, Chris Neibert (Jenna), Chris Jones (Kate), Christy Wilkins (Rich Sinegar), Brenda Wilkins, and Megan Connell; as well as her eleven great-grandchildren Allyson Duvall (Andrew), Cole Neibert (Kayla Adkins), Justin Ori, Lillian Ridgely, Crispin Porter, Logan, Brody, and Finn Connell, and Alyvia, Colin, and Lyla Jones.
A viewing will be held from 11 am to 12 pm on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where services will be held at 12 noon.
