Doris "Dottie" Lofland Obituary

Doris P. "Dottie" Lofland, 93, of Milford, DE and Primehook Beach, DE died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at home. Dottie was born in Altoona, PA the daughter of the late Harry Kenneth Peters and Agnes Marguerite Newton Peters. She was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School in Altoona, PA and upon graduation was recruited to work for the Department of the Navy in Washington, DC. There she met and in 1948 married Joseph S. Lofland, Jr.. She was a partner in and worked at the Lofland Funeral Home in Milford for more than 55 years. She was a charter member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford where she was a past president of WELCA. She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Beta Master Chapter, and received her 70 years membership award in 2018. She was a charter member of the Piece Makers Quilt Guild and was an award winning quilter. She was also a member of the Milford Senior Center where she played bridge on Thursdays, and the Milford First Friday group. She was an avid supporter of the Second Street Players in Milford and of Clear Space Productions in Rehoboth. She enjoyed attending the summer concerts in the park in Milford and Milton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph S. Lofland, Jr., in 1998, her daughter Penny Ruthann Lofland in 1986, and four sisters Ethel Peters, Jayne Jodon, and Retta Rettburg, of Altoona, PA and Mildred "Mid" Pheasant of Woodbury, NJ.

She is survived by two sons J. Sudler Lofland and his wife Joan W. Lofland of Milford and Dr. Gary K. Lofland of Crozier, VA.; one brother Russell "Bud" Peters of Scranton, PA; two grandchildren Kiernan S. Lofland and his wife Cameron, of Lincoln, NE and Glennis K. Lofland, of Baltimore, MD; one great grandson Theodore S. Lofland, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE  19963.
