Donald Oberpriller Obituary

Donald Henry Oberpriller, 82, of Milford, DE passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus, Milford. Don was born in St. Paul, MN, the son of the late Henry and Juna (Moen) Oberpriller. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Patricia (Kreckel) Oberpriller; son Donald Jay Oberpriller and wife Mary Ann; daughter Lori Katherine Herold and significant other Ken Plummer; and two special Granddogs Harry and Charlie. Also survived by his siblings Janet Wallace (George), William Oberpriller (Ana), Joel Oberpriller (Dorothy), Ann Krinsky (Jeff), Krista Deusterman (David), Laurel Seidl (Kurt) and Jeffrey Oberpriller (Kristy); in-laws Joann and Jim Abbott; Jim and Gail Kreckel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Oberpriller.

Don lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin until graduation from High School when he joined the Army. After the Army he relocated to Maryland and went to work for the United States Navy and met his wife Pat. In 1997 he retired from his long 38-year career ending it as a supervisor for the Naval Air Systems Command. 

While living and raising their family in Bryans Road, MD for 37 years, Don volunteered and served in various capacities within the community. He had an avid love of gardening and was an active member of the Charles County Master Gardeners. He served as President for several years.

In 2005 they relocated to Milford, DE. He continued with his love of gardening at his new
residence, where he received the Garden of the Month award from Milford Garden Club in 2010. After retirement Don and Pat traveled extensively. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. 

The family wishes to thank the nurses at Bayhealth Sussex (5 th and 6 th floors) and Bayhealth Palliative Care team (especially Robin Maracle and Loretta Higgins) for their compassionate care of Don during his last three weeks of his life.

A Celebration of Life and committal with military honors will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to U.S. National Park Services or Delaware State Parks Trust Fund in honor of all the wonderful memories spent visiting the National and State Parks.
