Alfele (“Vicky”) of Dover passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at The Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. “Vicky” was born in Greenwood, Delaware on December 20, 1931 to the late Cleota Willey and the late Harvey Willey. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1949 and began working immediately at Playtex in Dover, riding a bus from Harrington to Dover every day. She also worked at Burris Foods in Milford for several years. During the years her daughters were growing up, she worked part-time at various businesses in Harrington. In the 1970’s she worked at the Harrington Senior Center for the Meals on Wheels program, while also working for the Center as Assistant Director planning trips and activities. In the mid-1980’s, she left the Senior Center and began working for the Delaware State Housing Authority. She became the Manager of Huling Cove and Huling Cove Annex elderly apartment complexes in Lewes, Delaware, retiring after 10 years.
The beach was very special to Vicky, and she spent many days at Rehoboth Beach throughout her life. She and her late husband, Larry, lived in Lewes for many years, and enjoyed trying new restaurants throughout the area. They enjoyed traveling up and down the east coast and also visited London, England.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, and attended Orchard Church in Magnolia for several years. Her faith was very important to her always.
Family was the center of her life, and she would do whatever she could to make sure everyone had whatever they needed. She especially enjoyed holiday celebrations and family parties. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Larry Alfele; her sister, Violet Welch; and her two brothers, Norman Willey and Addison Willey.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lu Ann Jester; Lisa Morgan (Steve), and Lori Bailey (Fred); six grandchildren; Chris Jester (Amanda), Kate Holz (EJ), Nick Bailey (Linda), Derek Bailey, Erin Brittingham, and Kristin Wharton (Eric). In addition, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will miss her as well.
