Charles Edward Ivins Sr. of Farmington-Harrington, Delaware passed away on Monday July 1, 2024 at Delaware Hospice.
Mr. Ivins was born October 7, 1936 in Bursville, Maryland. He was the son of the late Earl Clark Ivins Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Moore) Ivins. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Eva Madeline Ivins in 2011, his brother Earl Clark Ivins Jr., and sister Gladys Pauline Meredith. He is survived by his son Charles E. “Chuck” Ivins Jr. of Farmington, Delaware. He also is survived by his brother, Rev. John R. “Bobby” Ivins of Lynchburg, VA, his special cousins, Bill Ivins of Harrington, Brenda “Boots” Ivins-Collins of Harrington, and a special sister-in-law Barbara Pauley of Crumpton, MD.
Mr. Ivins was born and raised on the Ivins family farm in Bursville, MD. He worked on the farm until He enlisted in United States Army in 1955. He served in the Army Medical Corp. He was stationed in Kansas, Texas, Colorado, and South Carolina. He also served abroad in Germany. Mr. Ivins worked for Bond Bread of Harrington as the local bread man. He retired after 30 years of service with Kraft General Foods Dover, DE, where he worked in Bakers Chocolate. He continued to help his son after retirement at Ivins Florist, a family business of which he was very proud. He is to be commended for the incredible care he provided to his wife during her lengthy illness.
Mr. Ivins was a lover of people. He never met a stranger, and one of his greatest joys was bringing laughter and happiness to others. He told everyone he met that he “loved” them. He enjoyed his social outings each day with his friends, meeting at Derby’s, Rudy’s, Arby’s in Harrington, and McDonalds of Milford. He enjoyed eating lunch daily as a member of the Milford Senior Center, Milford, DE and Frederica Senior Center, Frederica, DE. He was a member of Lighthouse Church, Milford, DE.
Funeral services will be held at Lighthouse Church, 347 Calvary Road, Milford, DE on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior, at 10:00 am, where Bishop Royce Andrus and Pastor Joel Andrus will officiate. Internment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE.
