Cecil W. Maloney, 88, originally of Milford, Delaware, passed away at the Shady Oaks Assisted Living facility in Bristol, Connecticut on Friday September 13, 2019. Cecil was born on May 16, 1931, in Milford, to Earl Maloney and Elsie (Holleger) Maloney. He attended Milford High School, enjoyed playing varsity sports and graduated in 1950. On March 24, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart, Clara Coverdale and they remained married until he passed.
Cecil worked at DuPont, at Silver Hill Dairy as a milkman and at I. G. Burtons & Co as a Parts and Service Manager until his retirement in May of 1993. He also served in the Army National Guard of Delaware being Honorably discharged from this service in October of 1980. At the time of his discharge, he was a Master Sergeant, E8. Cecil was a member of the Carlisle Fire Company and volunteered at the Senior Center and at the Hospital Gift Shop alongside his wife, Clara.
Cecil enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, beer steins and Jim Bean decanters. Back in the 60’s, many family vacations were spent visiting Civil War battlefields in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. He also enjoyed watching movies and reading books about World War 1 and 2. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his wife Clara.
He was survived by his wife of 68 years, Clara Maloney, his daughter Connie Sundblade and her significant other, David Coles, of New Britain, Connecticut. His nieces and nephews include Debbie Fisher, Kenzel Bunting, Herbert Maloney, Kenneth Maloney and Robert Maloney. Some of his great nieces and nephews include Brenda Hudson, Cindy Hrupsa, Rick Moore and Tim Moore.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings, Herbert Maloney, Betty Van Zandt and Kenzel Jester as well as her daughter Arlene.
A Memorial Service, for both Cecil and Clara Maloney, will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Lofland Funeral Home in Milford, Delaware. Friends and family are invited to begin arriving at 10:30 am. Graveside services will be private at the convenience of the family.
