Carolyn Sue McCumbers Neidlinger, 76, of Tub Mill Pond Road, Milford, DE died Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Bayhealth Sussex Hospital, after a long illness. She was born January 13, 1948 in Glen Burnie, MD to the late Denver Eston and Beulah Gay (Wainwright) McCumbers. She was reared with five brothers and one sister Jerel (Sue) McCumbers, Joyce (Mike) Kontjias, Marvin McCumbers, Ronald (Lois) McCumbers, Michael (Terry) McCumbers and Danny (Brenda) McCumbers.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Frederick Leo Neidlinger, of Milford; one son, Charles Shannon Wheeler; and one granddaughter Britany Wheeler.
Fred and Carolyn were married for 45 years, meeting at the Dover Air Force Base. Carolyn was employed for 40 years as an Administrative Assistant in Contracting for the Civil Service at Dover Air Force Base. She was a dedicated employee spending many of her days off in the office to make sure projects were completed on time. She was well liked by all and many depended upon her knowledge and expertise. She was easy going and a gentle person.
She liked reading and loved her Miniature Pinscher dog (Scarlett), who tugged Carolyn along during their daily walks. She liked flowers, rock and roll and Loretta Lynn songs. She was a collector of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia and Gone with the wind dolls. Gone with the Wind was her favorite movie, which she watched many times with her late mother-in-law.
A viewing will be held from 11 to 12:15 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Committal services will follow at 1 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. Flowers will be accepted or you may make contributions be made to the U.S.O. c/o Donor Services Specialist, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677.
