Carlton Fisher Obituary

Carlton John Fisher, 96, passed away from dementia, at home, on October 2, 2021. When Carlton turned 18, he joined the Navy in July 1943. He became an electrician while in the Navy and served his country on a destroyer that patrolled the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in August 1946, at the end of WW II. He met and married his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Ann Wilkins in 1950. After their marriage at his age of 27, they went on to have two daughters, Debra Ann in 1953, and Nancy Jean in 1957. For most of his working career, he was a construction foreman for John R. Wilkins Construction Co. and later for Richard Y. Johnson Construction Co. After a brief retirement at age 65-66, he rejoined the workforce as a part-time employee of Walt Breeding, fabricating the metal bodies of small race cars. He fully  retired in his early 70's to enjoy several years with his wife Phyllis, before she died in 2001.

His hobbies and interests included boating, crabbing, water skiing, and family get-togethers. For many years he enjoyed watching the dirt races at Lincoln, Georgetown and Delmar Speedways. He loved to spend time with the race crew of his nephew, Bob Wilkins. He would help, when he could, with the metal body fabrication and repairs of race cars. Otherwise, he just enjoyed the company of the crew.

He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Ann Wilkins Fisher; his son-in-law Jeffery Thomas; his brother, Paul Fisher; his sister, Iris Faulkner; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John R. Wilkins, Gilbert Wilkins, Ray Hamilton, George Faulkner, Jean Hamilton, and Marge Fisher; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a step-sister.

He is survived by his two daughters Debra Ann Davis and her husband Raleigh "Junior" Davis, Jr., and Nancy Thomas; 3 granddaughters Taryn Davis Irelan and husband Pat, Lindsey Taylor and husband Cody and Brooke Annand and husband Joshua; 2 great granddaughters Shaianne Miles Newberry and her husband Cam and Lillian Grace Taylor; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
