Billy Ray Lawson, a builder and resident of Sterling, VA and Lewes, DE passed away quietly in his sleep on February 1st in Milford, DE. He was 85 years old.
Billy is predeceased by his parents, Buford and Anna Lawson, his sisters Muriel Tippett and BJ Lawson and his brother, Jimmy Lawson. Billy is survived by his daughter Donna Lawson and son Scott Lawson, grandsons Josh Burruss (Heather) and Henry Lawson, and 3 great grandchildren Sophia, Lilliana and Noah Burruss. In addition, he leaves behind his beloved beach family, Steve and Laura Brown and their sons Dylan, Jacob, and Daniel, as well as his longtime caregiver Theresa Warrington.
Billy was born to Buford and Anna Lawson in Sweet Chalybeate, VA on December 25, 1936. He grew up in Sterling, VA and became a master craftsman building many homes throughout Loudoun County. He later owned Sterling Construction Company with his business partner Hubert Goode. Billy was involved in his community, singing in the church choir, coaching baseball and participating in the Sterling Ruritan Club.
In his spare time Billy loved to camp, hunt, fish and spend time with his family. He was a lead singer in a band called the Silvertones and also played banjo and guitar. Later in life, Billy retired to Lewes, DE where he restored historic homes, but his true passion was spending time on the water in his Boston Whaler. Billy’s quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 7th. The family will be receiving guests at 10:00 a.m. for light refreshments to be followed by a service at 11:00.
