Barbara E. Lofland

Barbara E. Lofland, 80, of Milford, DE passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford, surrounded by her family. She was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Walter Kilmer and Mabel Jeanette (Griffith) Betts.

Barbara was a graduate of Milford High School in 1959. Her education continued when she pursued her nursing degree at Bellevue Nursing School in New York. After graduating in 1962, she returned home to begin her career at Milford Memorial Hospital. She worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 50 years at Milford Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2013. After retirement, Barbara volunteered with Delaware Hospice for several years.

She was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church, the Law Dogs and the Emergency Nurses Association. She loved camping, doing puzzles, cooking, gardening, going to the beach, riding motorcycles, and her beloved dog, Tish. She especially loved lighthouses and would travel throughout the United States to visit them. Most important to Barbara was her family, whom she loved dearly. 

She is survived by her husband of 59 years Medford Robert Lofland, Jr.; two daughters Loreen Jeanette Thompson and Joetta Elaine Hopkins; one son Rob Lofland (Lisa); 3 grandchildren Mark Strickland, Jr., Trent Lofland and Reid Lofland; her siblings Gloria Jean Simmons, Jeanie Fitzgerald, Meredith Dean Betts (Mary), Keith Betts (Jan), and Marisa Pendleton (Bob); as well as several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 11am - 1 pm on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where services will then be held at 1 pm. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE  19963.
