Barbara Elaine Hammond

Barbara Elaine (Fitzgerald) Hammond, 91, of Lincoln, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024 at home. Barbara was born in Milford, DE the daughter of the late John Townsend and Lillie Gertrude (Spicer) Fitzgerald. She worked as a secretary for Delaware Pulpwood in Lincoln for many years before retiring. She was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, going to the slots in Harrington and loved her pets. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  Barbara loved Slaughter Beach, where she lived for many years prior to moving to Lincoln. After her retirement, Barbara started caring for the elderly, her compassion for people made it a perfect fit for her.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pierce Hammond; her daughter Linda Doughten, 3 brothers Jack Fitzgerald, Alvin Fitzgerald and Gene Fitzgerald, and a sister Ann M. Wiley.

She is survived by two sons Timothy Hammond (Linda) and Pierce (Skip) Hammond, Jr.; a daughter Debbie Hammond; grandchildren Michelle Wilson, Timothy Hammond II, Tyler Hammond, Erik Hammond, Jason Finkbiner and Brian Finkbiner; great grandchildren Brittany, Kailyn, Lauren, Annabelle, Wesley, Sophie, Adylee and Harleigh.

A viewing will be held from 12 - 1 pm on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where services will be held at 1 pm. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. Letters of condolence may be shared with the family at www.loflandandmcknatt.com.
