Richard Jackson Obituary

Richard Joseph Jackson, 73, of Milford, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late George W. and H. Rita (Dougherty) Jackson. Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country as a corpsman during the Vietnam War in 1967. On February 14, 1968, he was wounded at Ca Lu Valley. Shrapnel severed his spinal cord leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair for the past 50 ½ years. Richard was an avid reader. He was a member of St. Bernadette’s and St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a loving husband for 38 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers George Jackson and John Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Elizabeth A. Jackson; Frank P. Jackson and his husband D. Stephen Turner, Paul W. Jackson and his wife Margaret, Mary L. Jackson, wife of the late John M. Jackson, Rita D. Jackson, Edward W. Jackson and Phillip C. Jackson and his wife Holly; nieces and nephews Margaret, Paul, Stephen, Amanda, Melinda, Scott, Colin and Megan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford. Burial with military honors will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Rt. 113, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington, DE  19952, or to St. John’s Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford, DE  19963 or to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
