Mabel Mary Martin

MILFORD – Mabel Mary Martin, 89, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Milford Center Nursing Home in Milford.  Mabel (May) was born in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Henry and Mabel Schafer.  After moving to Milford, DE from Highpoint, NC in 1967 she worked in the cafeteria of the Milford Middle School for many years before retiring as a homemaker to raise her 4 children.  She was a faithful member of Reformation Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, word search and crossword puzzles, playing cards, bingo, bowling and cooking especially desserts.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel R Martin, a son-in-law Joseph W. Griffith, a daughter-in-law Patricia Martin, two brothers Douglas and Harry Schafer, and two sister-in-laws Anna Mae and June Schafer.

Mabel is survived by her son Samuel R. “Bob” Martin Jr. and his partner Wilma Besnoska; three daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” Lewis and her husband Jay; Carol Collins and her husband Tom; Sandra Fox and her husband Duane, all of Milford; one brother David Schafer, Sr.; two sisters-in-law Edith Schafer and Maria Schafer; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford, DE.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Mabel’s memory be sent to the Dementia Society of America by mail to PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online www.DementiaSociety.org/donate.
