James Emory Obituary

James W. “Jim” Emory, 65, of Milford, DE passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Kent General Hospital, Dover surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Canada, the son of the late Clarence W. and Mary Lou (Buntin) Emory. He owned and operated James Emory Construction of Milford for 30 years, working up until his illness. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He will best be remembered for the fields of sunflowers he would plant every year along Cedar Beach Road. He was one of the first certified EMT’s for the Houston Fire Company and was an Honorary member of the Carlisle Fire Company. He also served at one time as the acting mayor of Houston, DE. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care given Jim by the Cardio Vascular ICU staff at Kent General Hospital.

He is survived by his son James Russell Emory and his wife Ann; his daughter Jane Emory and her daughter Evelyn; his step-daughter Jennifer Hoopes; one brother Robert Windsor Emory; three sisters Michelle Webb, Jeanne Koehr and Karen Lee Brittingham and his loving companion Kay Emory.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, June 21 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where friends may visit with the family from 1:30 – 3 pm.
