Harold Gene “Honky Tonk” Messick, 69, of Milford, DE went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Milford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born in Bridgeville, DE the son of the late Norman Levi and Hannah Marie (Mitchell) Messick. Harolds gift was to minister through his selfless spirit, smile and wit. His natural ability to share the word of God with all he came in contact with, was who he was. His love for God shined in all he did, especially throughout his battle. The doctors and nurses always said he was amazing. His love for God never wavered.

He worked as a painting supervisor for many years, starting with Nanticoke Homes and then with Beracah Homes until retiring in 2007. He also had a painting side business. He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge # 534. Harold loved playing softball, and was well known for his pitching ability in both fast pitch and slow pitch leagues. His skill was sought after by many teams, giving him the opportunity to have played and won several championship games. He enjoyed training horses, and going to yard sales and auctions. Harold was an avid Phillies fan as well as a Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts Fan. He was a devoted member of the Milford Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 3 brothers Norman “Junior” Messick, Jimmy Messick and Ralph Messick and one sister Belle Kenton Elliott.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Faith Hope (Kenton) Messick; his children Lew Messick and his wife Rachel, Ray Messick and his wife Jean, Lori Headley and her husband Michael and Rachel Fetterman and her husband Cory; his grandchildren Heather Marvel and her husband Erik, Bryant Messick, Charla Benton, Lucas Messick and his wife Ashley, Zach Suthard, Logan Benton and his wife Kristen, Devon Fetterman, Gracie Fetterman, Joshua Suthard, Jena Suthard and Lily Fetterman; his great grandchildren Aubree, Brody and Liam; his brothers and sisters Marie Bertrand, Gardner Messick, Ernest Messick, Ray Messick, Virginia Lee Hickman, Nancy Hammond, Sandra Betts and Doris Donaway; many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and his beloved cat Mr. Tom "Prince" Messick.
 
Harold’s family knows that he would wish to acknowledge all his dialysis family and staff over the last 5 years as well as his lifelong buddies, aka the “Donut Shop Gang”.
 
A viewing will be held from 2 – 5 pm on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Milford Church of God, 500 North Walnut Street, Milford, DE where funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Burial will follow in Milford Community Cemetery, Rt. 113, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Greenwood Mennonite School, 12802 Mennonite School Road, Greenwood, DE  19950. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
