Carol Presson Oakley, 84, of Harrington, DE passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Milford Center surrounded by his family. Carol was born in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late James E. and Mary Celia (Presson) Oakley. He was a graduate of Upper Darby High School class of 1950. He joined the U. S. Air Force, serving our country for 21 years before retiring. He continued his career working as an investigator for the State of Delaware Department of Public Health, working for 19 years before retiring in 1992.
Carol was a member of the Walter L. Fox American Legion Post #2 of Dover, the Star of the West Masonic Lodge #33 in Minot, North Dakota, the Harrington Moose Lodge #534, the Brandywine Forest #20 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Past Associate Grand Guardian International Order of Jobs Daughters, Scottish Rite # 32, the Harrington Senior Center, Asbury United Methodist Church, Community Singers, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and was priviledged to having been Santa Claus for over 20 years in the Dover and Salisbury Malls as well as the Harrington Christmas Parade. In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by his Daughter Joni A Weimer; Brother James E. Oakley, Jr. and his wife Julia; Sisters Frances Mae and Elizabeth Ann, Sister-in-law Arleen M. Oakley, and Brothers-in-law John Hamilton, and James B. Moritz, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Joan; 4 Daughters Jackie O. McIntyre (Mark), Joy O. Spicer (Brad), Jill O. Smith (Wayne), and Joyce E. Oakley (JoJo Hardisty); 15 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren and his brother Charles T. Oakley.
A viewing will be held from 10 - 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington. A Masonic Service will be celebrated at 11:20 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in his honor to either Muscular Dystrophy through Brandywine Forest #20, P.O. Box 362, Townsend, DE 19734; the Harrington Senior Center, 102 Fleming Street, Harrington, DE 19952 or to Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952.
