Betty Jane Melvin

Betty Jane Melvin, 90, of Harrington, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2018 at home. Betty was born in Harrington, the daughter of the late John Dill and Alice (Larimore) Dill Sullivan. She began her working career as a secretary at Masten Lumber in Milford, then worked for many years at I.L.C. in both Dover and Frederica as secretary and purchasing agent. During her time at I.L.C. she had the opportunity to meet with several of the astronauts before her retirement. Betty was a member of the C.K.R.T. Post #7 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Harrington. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Goodens Flower Shop bowling team at Milford Bowling Lanes. She also enjoyed playing cards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband George Robert Matthews; her second husband Harold C. Melvin; her sister Janet Brown; and her stepfather George Sullivan.

She is survived by one son George "Bobby" Matthews and his wife Tonya; one daughter Bonnie Brown and her husband Howard; her grandchildren Stephanie McGuire, Kelly Dee, April Matthews, Heather Gallagher, Shawn Matthews and Tami Pfeiffer; 9 great grandchildren; and her loving caregivers, also known as Betty's "Saints": Angela Vadikin, Joy Bishop, Lisa Bishop, Terry Gill, Trisha Herbst, Tenesha Mosley, Crystal Colison, Sandy Greene and Pauline Boyer Zacco.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Seasons Hospice for their kindness and assistance with Betty while under their care.
