Robert "Bob" Grant Obituary

Robert Grant, Bob, of Milford, DE passed away on Saturday February 24, 2018. He had been in Hospice care and was able to spend his final days in the comfort of his home.

Bob was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England on May 6, 1938 to the late Elizabeth (Davison) and John Robert Grant. He grew up during World War II, with his older sister Joan and younger brother Alan. His childhood was surrounded by bombings of the city and food rationing cards. During his youth he worked as a bicycle delivery boy for his father’s grocery store. He was a graduate of the Newcastle School of Building & Technical Craft. During his time in England he also worked for Maynard’s Candy, Hawthorne & Leslie Shipbuilders, and served in the British Army. During his service he was able to travel to Kenya, Africa.

In 1964 he traveled across the Atlantic from England with his wife Agnes and six-month-old daughter. He was in pursuit of the American Dream, a dream that became a reality. Bob and his family first settled in New Jersey where he began his career as a roofer and became an American citizen. Starting out with very little, he was able to build a successful business, that later became Grant & Sons Roofing and Siding of Milford, DE. Bob’s memory lives on through this business now run by his oldest son. Bob took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bob enjoyed many simple pleasures: long walks in nature with his dog, a hot cup of tea, reading by the fireplace, and playing Scrabble. Bob was also an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching boxing, golf, his grandson Nick’s baseball games, and it brought him great joy to see the Eagles victorious in this year’s super bowl. He spent many years as a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge. He will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Agnes (Blackman); his daughter Elaine Grant; his son Robert A. Grant and wife Mary (Reirden), his son James Grant; his son Thomas C. Grant and wife Joanne (Saulsbury); his daughter Theresa Gray (Grant) and husband Edwin L. Gray, III; his 6 grandchildren; grandson Robert A. Grant, II and wife Ashley (Mack); grandson Nicholas Grant; granddaughter Shelby Grant; grandson Edwin “Quade” Gray, IV; granddaughter Aurora P. Gray; grandson Tavish W. Grant; and his 2 great-grandchildren Robert “Trey” Grant, III, and Theodore Grant.
