Irvin M. "Irv" Ambrose, 70, of Milford, DE passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Delaware Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Irv was born in Pottsville, PA the son of the late Irvin M. and Martha (Maracani) Ambrose, Sr. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BA degree and received his masters degree in counseling from the University of Delaware. Irv began his career at Central Middle School in Dover as a 7th grade math teacher. Over the next 32 years, he progressed through the school system at Central Middle School until finally becoming Principal, before retiring in 2004. After retiring, Irv went to work at Wilmington University, where he worked as the supervisor of student teachers. 

Irv was very active in the Milford Community. He always worked hard to make Milford a better place for all citizens through a variety of beautification projects, fundraising initiatives and outreach to new businesses that helped the City of Milford grow and thrive. He dutifully served the residents and business owners of downtown Milford in multiple roles all focused on making his home ward and the City of Milford a better place. He served as City Councilman for many years, a member of the City of Milford Planning Commission, and was active with Downtown Milford Inc., having served as past president and was currently serving as Chairman of Economic Development. In his spare time, Irv was a very talented woodworker and clocksmith, enjoying doing furniture restoration, clock repair as well as working on his home. Most important to Irv was his family, for he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Marilyn; two daughters Amy Ambrose Donato and her husband Eric and Jennifer Ambrose Blanchard and her husband David; 3 grandchildren Sara Blanchard, Ben Donato and Nick Donato; one brother Dr. David Ambrose and his wife Christine; one nephew Dr. David Ambrose and one niece Dr. Tracey Ambrose.

At Irv's request, a celebration of his life will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE  19963. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, DE.
