Glenn Lamar Garner, age 80, of Milford, Delaware, formerly of Lititz, Pennsylvania, died August 9, 2017. He was born on September 25, 1936 to the late William S. Garner, Jr. and Marian (Hess) Garner.
Glenn was a 1954 graduate of Rothsville High School and furthered his education at Shippensburg State University receiving a Bachelor’s degree and Bucknell University receiving a Master’s degree. He started his teaching career in the Blossburg, Pennsylvania school district and retired after 33 years, holding several positions, in the Hempfield School District.
Glenn enjoyed boating and fishing in the Delaware Bay, making Delaware his permanent home after retirement. He is a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford, Delaware and Salem Lutheran Church of Kissel Hill, Pennsylvania. One of Glenn’s passions was the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Milton, Delaware. He also enjoyed volunteering in the local community, which he did by holding varied positions which included serving on Boards; Advisory Councils; answering phones and teaching Tai Chi. Those organizations included: AARP; Cheer; Delaware Hospice; Frederica Senior Center; Matter of Balance; Milford Senior Center; Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association; Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge and Volunteer Delaware 50+.
He is survived by a sister, Fay E., wife of Ralph S. Wiest, Ephrata, Pennsylvania and a brother Bruce E., husband of Mary Jane (Warner) Garner, Mountville, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by three nieces, Debra L. Weit, Akron, Pennsylvania; Diane J., wife of Jeffrey L. Futer, Hummelstown, Pennsylvania and Amy L., wife of Mark Ware, Highlands Ranch, Colorado and seven great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 26, 2017 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, Delaware.
