Donald LeRoy Garey, Sr., age 74, of Felton, DE passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood, DE.  He was the son of the late Percy R. and Erma Shaffer Garey. He was born in Denton, MD and later the family moved to a farm in Felton, DE.  He attended Harrington School and was a graduate of the Class of 1959.  When in high school he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track.  He also played Pony League Baseball.
    
After graduation he took a job in Washington, DC with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  After several years he accepted a position with General Foods (Kraft Foods) at their Port Chester, New York location later transferring to their new facility in Dover, Delaware. He worked in the Information Systems Department and retired in 1996 after 35 years of service.
    
He was a member of the Lake Forest School Board for ten years, and a past member of the Harrington Jaycees and the Harrington Lions Club.
    
He attended the Church of the Brethren in Denton, MD when he was young and after his marriage he joined Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, DE where he was a very active participant holding many offices over the years including Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of Administrative Council, Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Methodist Men, sang in the Cathedral Choir and a member of the Builder’s Sunday School Class.  
    
Over the years he helped coach a Harrington Little League team, he looked forward to and enjoyed golfing trips and hunting trips with his friends.  His biggest pastime and passion was with breeding, raising, training and racing horses.  He also enjoyed having a large garden each year with plenty of vegetables to share with family and friends. 
    
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jack Garey, one son, D. LeRoy Garey, Jr. (Tina) and one daughter, Mary Christine Garey Smith (Norman) and four grandchildren Michael P. Garey of Charleston, SC, Emma C. Garey of Baltimore, MD Kristen L. Garey of Blacksburg, VA and Steven T. Garey of Felton, DE.  He is also survived by two sisters, Priscilla G. Morris, Juanita G. Melling (John) and six brothers Paul R. Garey (Helen), Robert F. Garey (Linda), Kenneth E. Garey (Elizabeth), Larry R. Garey (Linda), Gerald P. Garey (Marian) and William R. Garey (Peggy) along with one aunt, Kathleen Cole and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He had two brothers-in-law Russell H. Jack (Debbie) and G. Nelson Reed.  He was predeceased by a Godchild, Karen Evelyn Garey and brother-in-law Billy Morris.

Funeral services with be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016  at Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE were a viewing held prior from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.  Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. Arrangements are being made by McKnatt, Carpenter and Baker Funeral Home, Harrington.
