Bennie L. Bell, 80, of Milford, DE and formerly of Winchester, VA died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA after a long illness. Bennie was born in North Wilksboro, NC the son of the late George and Phoebe (Blevins) Bell. He served in the West Virginia Air National Guard for 4 years during the Korean War before receiving his honorable discharge for his service. He and his late wife Janet moved to Milford from Winchester, VA in 1968. Bennie worked at Leggett’s Department Store in Milford in Human Resources for many years before retiring. He was a member of Calvary U.M. Church in Milford and a mason and past member of the Temple Lodge #9 AF & AM of Milford. Bennie enjoyed hunting (in his younger years), enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a huge Dale Earnhardt, Dale, Jr. and Kevin Harvick fan. He was also a devout Washington Redskins fan. In addition to his parents, Bennie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years Janet H. Bell in 1992.
He is survived by his son Byron “BJ” Bell of Milford and his sister Myrtle Vea Adams and her husband Calvin, of Lynchburg, VA.
A viewing will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday evening, January 25, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford and again from 12 – 1 pm on Friday afternoon, January 26, at the Mountain View Methodist Church, Star Tannery, VA where funeral services will follow at 1 pm. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front Street, Milford, DE 19963.
